Ok – so we’re sprinting down the home stretch of our SiteBoss 2.0 project, and we left the best stuff for last – the accounting software. Writing accounting software for construction companies isn’t REALLY all that different from writing it for any other company – except when it is. Like Ricky Ricardo used to say – let me ‘splain:
Most people use Quickbooks for their business accounting. Why? Not because it fits well with their business, not because it’s easy to use (it’s REALLY not because of that), and not because it is cheap. People use it because it does everything. It does payroll, it does billing, it does tax calculations, it does all kinds of stuff. People buy it knowing that their accountant will know how to use it, and that no matter how much they grow, they probably won’t outgrow Quickbooks.
Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Look – WE certainly understand the issue. We BUILT SiteBoss because there wasn’t anything out there that really does WHAT you need in a way that is as easy as possible. So we are making that happen. We are building top notch accounting software for construction companies, completely integrated with the rest of our system. That means that when you mark a task as complete, the finance system gets wind of it, and transactions are created. We’ll keep it all in sync for you. No – it’s not going to do payroll at first. No, it’s not going to connect to your bank at first. We’ll get to those things, we promise. But for now – we’re going to make sure you can answer these key questions:
- Who owes me money?
- Who do I owe money to?
- Are my jobs making money? (And how much)
- What does my cash flow look like?
And isn’t that really the questions you want answered? No? Please leave us a comment here. We’d love to hear what else you need. We’ll do it. We promise.
